WOMADelaide 2014 – The Ones That Got Away

Last week I shared the musical joy of WOMADelaide 2014 and its many incredible global artists. This week I know from the festival’s compilation cd –  WOMAD: The World’s Festival – Australia & New Zealand 2014 – that I missed some of that joy.

So I want to pay homage to, and share a track by 2 of the artists who got away from me at WOMADelaide 2014. Also 1 track by a group we know and love.

The Ones That Got Away

Ane Brun (Norway)

Norwegian born, Sweden-based singer, songwriter and guitarist Ane Brun

Why did I miss her WOMADelaide shows?

I’m in love with Ane Brun’s track on the WOMAD compilation, ‘To Let Myself Go‘.  First released on her 2005 album A Temporary Dive, the vocals and the song as a whole in its spacious simplicity, are ethereal beauties. Listen here…

Ane Brun’s been releasing music for over a decade.  She has lots of other music to find and buy…

Shanren (China)

Shanren make music like none I’ve ever heard before. Had it not been for WOMADelaide, I probably never would’ve heard it.

Take Shanren’s self-description of their music, not any lame one I try to give it: ‘Chinese Ethnic Reggae Rock Fusion’.

And check out this Shanren song that caught my attention on the WOMAD cd, and made me wish I’d caught their live show…

One We Know & Love

Arrested Development (USA)

If you checked out the video of Arrested Development’s WOMADelaide 2014 show, you’ll have seen they’re still doing the good thing they’ve always done…conscious, upbeat hip hop.

Finding Arrested Development’s 2010 song ‘Bloody’ on the WOMAD compilation was a good trip down memory lane for me. Hoping it will be for you too…

Beaver Preachings

If you like what you hear on the sample tracks and want them in your music collection forever after, please remember these things I preach:

1. They are just compressed mp3 versions of the songs in their true glory, as heard on vinyl or cd.

WOMAD- The World's Festival- Australia & New Zealand 2014 Compilation CD

2. The artists who made the music, WOMADelaide, WOMAD New Zealand, WOMAD and Cartell Music get no money from these here sample tracks in Beaver World.

WOMADelaide3. The cd in all it’s glory includes 13 more songs by other great WOMAD New Zealand and WOMADelaide 2014 artists.

4. You can buy the cd on-line here and get it sent to you.  Or come along to WOMAD New Zealand or WOMADelaide 2015 and buy it from their on-site festival shops. WOMADelaide 2014

5. Music makes the world go round a much, much, much happier place for us all to live in.

It’s rare for me to find a compilation cd where I love almost all of its tracks. I’m not surprised I found it in the WOMAD New Zealand and WOMADelaide 2014 compilation.  This album is simply a reflection of the live music I heard at WOMADelaide festival 2014…many beautiful and diverse Sounds of the Planet.

My WOMADelaide joy continues via disc! 🙂

Anyone hear Ane Brun or Shanren at WOMADelaide and can fill us in on the live experience?
